Objectives
Empowering and nurturing the next generation of talent among students in Malaysian Public Higher Education Institutions (Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Community Colleges). This program aims to foster innovative thinking and a collaborative spirit through the development of no-code applications using AppSheet, powered by Gemini AI within Google Workspace for Education, to create high-impact solutions for real-world challenges.

Timeline
The Hackathon guides participants through a structured innovation journey, commencing with an online Kick-Off and a dedicated Training & Mentoring session. This development phase is followed by the selection and announcement of finalists, with the entire program culminating in a Final Presentation where the top teams will showcase their solutions.

Overview

Google for Education no-Code virtual hackathon will help universities students come together to solve certain student experiences using AppSheet and Google Workspace apps

This is a no-Code hackathon designed specifically for education users with no skills in coding or developing to create applications relevant to their specific interest.

During the hackathon, participants learn and build a prototype on the theme of the competition.

Participants leave this workshop with the techniques and strategies to bring their ideas to life and ready to pilot apps that would help automate some of their workflows.

Inspiring innovation and building awareness through a No-Code Hackathon. The event demonstrates how easily anyone can create applications with AppSheet, while giving students a platform to showcase their talent and creativity.

Identifying real-world challenges and designing conceptual solutions. Students evaluate designated themes, analyze targeted issues like campus-level pain points, and deeply explore how AppSheet and integrated AI capabilities can be leveraged to build innovative applications.

Fostering technical development through teamwork. Participants collaborate in groups to design functional prototypes and complete end-to-end applications for assessment submission.

Delivering impact and value to the judging panel. Participants prepare a pitch deck to present their ideas compellingly, showcase their working app prototypes, and demonstrate the potential application within educational institutions.

Criteria of Participation

Participant Eligibility

Open to all students currently enrolled in Malaysian Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Community Colleges.
Each team must consist of students who are actively enrolled and still registered at the same institution on the date of the final presentation.

Team Formation

Each team must have a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of three (3) students, along with one accompanying officer (Lecturer/Institutional Staff).
The accompanying officer serves as an advisor and mentor but is not allowed to directly assist in the application's development or the final presentation.
Any registration that does not meet the team formation requirements will be automatically disqualified.
A student can only represent one (1) team to ensure all students have an equal opportunity to participate.

Phase 1 Judging: All registered team.

Key Requirements & Guidelines

Platform & Ecosystem Integration:

Participants must build their applications using AppSheet.
The application must be integrated with the Google Workspace for Education Plus account provided to students.

Core Technology Focus (Gemini AI):
- Built applications must leverage Gemini Apps technology to solve problems or provide innovative solutions within their respective institutions.
- Participants are encouraged to address real-world challenges faced by students or institutions to ensure the solution is ready for practical adoption.
First Round Proposal Submission:
- Every team must submit a proposal document for initial evaluation and finalist selection.
- A standard proposal template will be shared post-registration. The document must include:
  - Introduction: Clear problem statement.
  - Brief Overview: High-level idea and core application features.
  - Impact & Benefits: Expected value and benefits to the institution or students.
  - Design & Workflow: User Interface (UI) concepts, user journey, and process workflows.
  - Team & Advisor Details: Complete details of team members and accompanying advisor/officer.
Second Round Submission (Top 50):
- Teams that advance past the First Round (Top 50) are required to submit a 3-Minute Mockup Video Presentation for the Second Round evaluation to select the Top 10 Finalists per category.
- Video Submission Format:
  - Duration: Maximum 3 minutes.
  - File Format: Submit a video link with MP4 format (Must be shared via a Google Drive link only).
  - Audio & Video Quality: Clear audio with voiceover or live presentation by team members, accompanied by crisp screen recordings of the application interface.

Score 1 - 3 (Developing)

The solution is generic or heavily copied from existing apps. It provides little to no new value to the campus.

Score 4 - 8 (Proficient)

The solution addresses a real campus problem with a clear, practical approach. Shows good uniqueness.

Score 9 - 10 (Excellent)

Highly original, groundbreaking, and solves a major real-world challenge in a completely fresh way.

Creativity

Shows minimal understanding of AppSheet and Gemini features. UI/UX concepts, mockups, or workflow diagrams are missing, unclear, or lack creativity

Effectively utilizes AppSheet and Gemini features in the proposal. UI/UX layouts and workflows are clearly presented, logical, and visually appealing.

Demonstrates outstanding creativity in combining AppSheet and Gemini capabilities. UI/UX mockups and workflows are exceptionally detailed, intuitive, highly realistic, and visually impressive.

Functionality & Usability

Critical bugs, fails to execute core purpose, or too complicated for practical use.

Works well with minimal errors. Effectively solves the problem and practical for deployment.

Final Presentation Guidelines

Teams that successfully advance to the final round will be notified via an official email from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) sent to the finalist teams, also on the Hackathon website, and through the Person in Charge (PIC) at their respective institutions.
All finalist teams must deliver their final presentations in person on the designated date. Details on the location will be announced later by KPT/Awantec.
Each team will be allocated 10 minutes for their final presentation.
Following the presentation, a 2-minute Q&A session with the panel of judges will be held.
Winners for both Category A and Category B will be announced on the same day as the final presentations.

How to Register

Please provide the following details for your project group. Remember, the group should consist of a maximum of three (3) students, in addition to the lecturer.
(Create a group name, lecturer details, student leader details, two names of members)
Each name nominated here should include a full name, email address faculty and contact number.

All registration for Universities Category must be submitted through your institution's designated Google Ambassador. The Ambassador is responsible for nominating eligible students and completing the official participation form that was distributed with the notification letter.
For Polytechnics & Community Colleges (PolyCC). Registration must be through the link provided in the official letter from the Department of Polytechnics and Community Colleges (JPPKK).
